I recently heard both Presidential Candidates speak during a debate and brought up the fact that 50% of the population is living paycheck to paycheck. The candidates spoke of job creation as a solution. They both missed something big here.
When I was offered a job where i had to relocate, I was on my own – really on my own, for the first time. Sure, I had lived “on my own” with roommates after college but this would be me moving out of my area and out of my comfort zone. I was making decent money (plenty to pay the rent) but i was still living paycheck to paycheck. I basically took any money I had in my account just prior to the next payday and blew it on whatever i deemed i thought i needed at that moment. I was visiting Starbucks twice a day and buying the expensive drinks.
Paycheck to paycheck has nothing to do with how much money you make. It has everything to do with how you spend (or save) the money you do make. We must make a change in our brains that we will deny ourselves certain things in the here and now so that we will put ourselves in a better place later. It took me several years to get out of the 32,000 dollars in credit card debt I amassed. I created a spending plan or budget worksheet so that I could first see how i was spending my money, and then generate a plan based on what i actually needed. I want to share this with you for FREE.
